Impacted Wisdom Teeth: Diagnosis and Treatment

Bookmark and Share

"Wisdom teeth" are classified as molars. Molars are the chewing teeth found furthest in the back of the mouth. Most people have first, second and third molars.

person's third molars are their wisdom teeth. These teeth come in behind the second molars (if you need space for them and they are aligned properly) usually during a person's late teens or early twenties. In most cultures, the age of maturity, hence the term "wisdom". There are usually four wisdom teeth: upper left, upper right, lower left and lower right

.

in dental terminology "impacted tooth" refers to a tooth that has failed to emerge fully into its expected position. This unfortunate failure to erupt just May occur either because there is not enough space in the jaw for a tooth, or because the tooth was the improper angle. impacted wisdom teeth is often partially erupt at a later age (45-55). Not only are they difficult to set aside at that age, healing time is much longer.

Dentists use specific terms to describe the positioning of impacted wisdom teeth. There are two ways of describing the "constraint" of wisdom. The most common way is to describe the direction of the impaction. For example, mesial impaction (also called angular impaction) simply means that the wisdom tooth is angled forward toward the front of the mouth. Distal impaction means wisdom tooth is angled toward the throat. Vertical impaction means the tooth is angled toward the head and horizontal impaction means the tooth is pointed sideways.

Alternatively, impacted teeth can be described by the degree of impaction. If the tooth is just covered in gum, it is called soft tissue impaction. If the tooth is covered with rubber and some of the jaw bone, it is called partial-bony impaction. If the tooth is covered under the gums and jaw bones of all, it is called a complete-bony impaction.

an alternative to having wisdom teeth removed is to keep them. A few lucky people were able to keep their wisdom teeth and care for them as they would their other teeth. People with large jaws (blacks and African) can often keep their teeth because their wisdom, the wisdom teeth have room to erupt into the mouth properly. But for most of us, it is not possible, and delay in their removal can cause serious problems.

The most common problems associated with wisdom teeth have cavities, gum inflammation (pericoronitis), facial abscess (cellulitis), cyst, density (occlusal malaligment and numbess (parathesia). In rare cases (about 3-5 in Texas every year ), the third molar infection can travel downward and cause airway obstruction and sudden death. Moreover, in traditional Chinese medicine, the four wisdom teeth were associated with the four chambers of the heart. The problem with wisdom tooth creates a "block" the meridian (energy) system, which leads to heart problems.

wisdom teeth usually cause problems when the body is under stress, such as the final exam, which is moving to a new location, and pregnancy. For example, during my stay oral surgery in Houston, I witnessed a lower tooth abscess led to two deaths - 35 years old diabetic pregnant mother and her 6-month-old fetus

.

the best time for surgical removal of wisdom teeth is when they are about 2 / 3 fully developed size. It is usually between the ages of late teens or early twenties. Currently, there are two common practices for surgical removal of wisdom teeth. The most common recommendation is to remove all four under intravenous sedation and local anesthesia. Alternatively, you can unilaterally allocate one side (upper and lower wisdom teeth), two at a time, 3-6 month apart, under local anesthesia.
